Project Description
The Digital Center for Women in Iaşi, a project developed by Fab Lab Iași Association in partnership with Fundația Orange România, has as its general objective to provide support for more 90 vulnerable women, so that they can develop the digital skills necessary to obtain a new job, start or continue the entrepreneurship plans for their small businesses or develop their own online commerce sites.
Who is the project for?
The beneficiaries of the project are women with low incomes, single mothers, mothers on maternity leave, women who have small businesses but do not have promotion opportunities or women who fully provide the necessary resources for the whole family.
General context
According to the 2020 European Scoreboard on the involvement of women in the digital sphere, only 18% of ICT specialists are women, and the gender gap is present in all 12 indicators measured. Thus, women across Europe are less likely to have specialized digital skills and work in this field compared to men.
The Digital Center for Women Iași supports the beneficiaries to learn more about electronic commerce and online promotion means, social media networks, useful practices and techniques in online commerce, as well as what an entrepreneurial brand means. They will also benefit from career advice, along with practical sessions on interviews in the IT field and creating a CV. The new center aims to acquire the digital skills necessary to increase women’s autonomy and quality of life, while also offering support for them to get more involved in the digital environment.
